Speech-Language Pathology Renovates Southampton Space

Speech after conf room

Speech after labThe Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) program recently completed significant renovations at its Stony Brook Southampton location in Atlantic Hall.

The comprehensive renovation for the School of Health Technology and Management (SHTM) included redesigning and building six faculty offices, five faculty labs, two classrooms, two simulation labs, a central debriefing room and a conference room.

The state-of-the-art facilities and technology in the simulation rooms in Atlantic Hall will be used to facilitate interprofessional education and practice. A unique and innovative clinical collaboration with Stony Brook Southampton Hospital will prepare our graduates to provide much needed communication and swallowing services to the immediate community.

Speech after conf roomThe SLP program, which leads to a MS degree, is housed in SHTM and located at Stony Brook Southampton. It is a comprehensive and rigorous program that prepares students for positions in a variety of settings including hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, long-term care facilities, extended care facilities, schools, agencies and private practices.

Students will engage in clinical practice each semester throughout their two-year program. Beginning in their first semester, the graduate students will engage in clinical simulations and interprofessional practice experiences at both Stony Brook University Hospital and Stony Brook Southampton Hospital.
