Doug Monticciolo kicks off The Brevet Summit Series at the SBU Marine Sciences Center

On August 8th, 2019, Brevet Capital hosted its second annual summit at Stony Brook University’s Marine Sciences Center called Checkpoints of the Future. The day-long gathering touched on the commercial, societal, scientific, and philosophical checkpoints of the near term as we face a rapidly changing world that poses both challenges and opportunities.

The Brevet Summit Series is the creation of Stony Brook alum ’84, ’85 Doug Monticciolo and is meant to facilitate important conversations and spark new thinking. The event convenes leaders from various business sectors, philanthropic entities, academic and research institutions, creative organizations and government at Stony Brook. Its focus on innovation is precisely the reason why Monticciolo thought the annual conference should take place at Stony Brook.

More than 70 people attended this year’s conference, where panels and individuals covered topics like medicine and partnerships, the power of aesthetic intelligence, ethical fashion, the human impact of urban distress, workforce development, a post-plastic world, the future of entertainment and food production of the future. The Dean of Stony Brook University’s School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences spoke at the conference and a tour of Stony Brook’s state-of-art facility was offered to participants.

Brevet hosts a series of events throughout the year at various locations along with its annual summer convening at Stony Brook in Southampton. It’s one of many ways alum Monticciolo remains engaged and active in the Stony Brook community. Just a few years ago, his firm helped launch the Business School’s investment club and his staff works to mentor club members through real life problem solving and experiences at Brevet which is based in New York City.
In addition to serving as founder, chief executive officer, and chief investment officer of Brevet Capital Management, Monticciolo is an active member of Stony Brook’s College of Business Advisory Board, Hope for New York, and the Young Presidents’ Organization.
