Willa Smith has been appointed the new regional center director of the Stony Brook Small Business Development Center (SBDC). Smith succeeds Martha Stansbury, who led the SBDC with distinction and dedication to the region’s small business community.
A longtime member of the New York Small Business Development Center (NYSBDC) network, Smith brings extensive experience in small business advising, portfolio management, and entrepreneurial development. She has played a key role in helping startups and established companies access financing, strengthen operations, and achieve sustainable growth.
The Stony Brook SBDC, part of the statewide NYSBDC network, provides confidential, no-cost business advising, training, and research services to small businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs throughout Long Island. Working in partnership with the U.S. Small Business Administration, New York State, and regional economic-development agencies, the center supports innovation and job creation across diverse industries.
“Willa brings a strong record of leadership and a deep understanding of what it takes to help small businesses grow and thrive,” said Michael Kinch, Stony Brook University’s Chief Innovation Officer. “Her experience and vision will be instrumental in expanding the SBDC’s role as a driver of innovation and economic opportunity across our region.”
