The Avram Theater at Stony Brook Southampton will be filled with “The Spirit and Soul of Latin Jazz” on Thursday, July 24, as The Jazz Loft @ Southampton Concert Series continues to entertain the East End with top jazz performers.
The concert, featuring the Carlos Jiménez Mambo Dulcet, will focus on the rhythms and cultures of Spain, Cuba, the Caribbean, Mexico, Brazil and beyond. It will emphasize the art of collaboration and explore how Latin rhythms have shaped our American popular music through the decades.

Band leader Carlos Jiménez is an extraordinary flute player and vocalist, as well as composer of jazz, latin jazz and salsa. To date, Jiménez has recorded nine albums of his own compositions and arrangements, and the Carlos Jimenez Orchestra is the house band for the iconic Zona de Cuba in the Bronx.
The Carlos Jiménez Mambo Dulcet also includes:
- Ruben Rodriguez, who has been recognized as one of the best and hardest working Latin music bass players in the United States.
- Coto Pincheira, an internationally acclaimed pianist, composer and educator with over 25 years of performance experience.
- Drummer/percussionist Victor Rendón, a highly respected educator, author and veteran of the New York City Latin music scene.
- Oscar Onoz, immersed in the vibrant community of Cuban exiled musicians and mastered the distinctive “Cuban Folkloric” trumpet style that has become his signature.
- Angel Paez, a lifelong conga player who returned to performing later in life and joined the Carlos Jiménez Mambo Dulcet.
- Cristian Rivera, a dynamic and highly in-demand Latin percussionist from Holbrook, NY, known for his rock-solid feel and versatility.
Curated by Manuel — Jazz Loft founder and Stony Brook University Jazz Department Endowed Artist in Residence Fellow — the series aims to bring the rich traditions and innovative spirit of jazz to the Southampton community. The series is part of an ongoing effort to revitalize Stony Brook Southampton as a hub for the arts, community and education.
The theme of each performance looks at jazz both historically and contemporarily, incorporating extraordinary entertainment and education. The Jazz Loft’s mission is one of jazz preservation, education and performance, and this partnership with Stony Brook Southampton will provide East End residents with the opportunity to experience and learn about great jazz first-hand.
The final concert in the series, “Abstract Angularity,” will be held on Thursday, August 28, at 7 pm.
