Stony Brook University’s has made the 2017 Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs, a national recognition that celebrates student affairs workplaces that are vibrant, diverse, supportive and committed to staff work-life balance, professional development and inclusive excellence.
The study is administered by the Center for Higher Education Enterprise (CHEE) along with Diverse: Issues in Higher Education magazine and the American College Personnel Association (ACPA). With a focus on workplace diversity, staffing practices and work environment, the CHEE research team used a web-based survey approach to examine categories such as family friendliness, salary/benefits and professional development opportunities, to name a few.
“This study yields insight into diversity in the study affairs workplace and offers a useful tool for employers, career services staff and job seekers across the country,” said Principal Investigator Terrell Strayhorn. “We hope it continues to serve as a tool for the profession.”
CHEE is an interdisciplinary research and policy center that promotes the important role post-secondary education plays in global society, especially the vital roles and responsibilities of public higher education. ACPA, with almost 7,500 members, supports college student learning through the generation and dissemination of knowledge, which informs policies, practices and programs for student affairs professionals and the higher-education community. Diverse reaches more than 200,000 readers biweekly and is the nation’s premier publication covering the issues pertaining to underrepresented minorities in American higher education.
