Two Stony Brook University Videos Honored at Telly Awards

Two videos produced by the Stony Brook University Office of Marketing and Communications (MARCOM) were recognized at the annual Telly Awards, which honor excellence in video and television across all screens.

Stony Brook University: Dare to Be — the university’s anthem video — won twice, earning a People’s Telly Gold Award in the General-Promotional Video category and a Bronze Telly Award in the General-Educational Institution category. The video was created by the MARCOM production team of Kelly Drossel, Annette Stellato and Dennis Murray.

Yarn — and an Artist’s Life — Reimagined at the Wang Center, a profile of world renowned ‘playful crochet’ artist Mulyana and his inspirational art exhibit, also won a Bronze Telly Award in the General-Educational Institution category. Ellen Cooke produced the video with Murray.

“The People’s Telly Award is especially meaningful, as all entries in this category were first shortlisted by Telly judges and then voted on by the public. Winning a Gold here reflects not only the quality of the work, but also the strong connection it made with viewers,” said Interim Vice President for Marketing and Communications Susan Foley. “These recognitions are a testament to the creativity, collaboration, and heart we have here in MARCOM.”

Founded in 1979 to honor local, regional and cable television commercials, with non-broadcast video and television programming added soon after, the Telly Awards celebrate the best work in the video medium, evolving with the rise of digital video to include branded content, documentary, social media and more.

More than 13,000 entries were received globally, from six continents and all 50 states. Telly Award winners represent work from some of the most respected advertising agencies, television stations, production companies and publishers from around the world. All work is reviewed by the Telly Awards Judging Council, a body of over 250 executives from television networks, production companies, global agencies, immersive content studios and streaming platforms around the world.
