On Tuesday, March 18, SUNY Chancellor John B. King Jr. and the presidents of SUNY’s four university centers — University at Albany, Binghamton University, University at Buffalo, and Stony Brook University — hosted the first-ever research expo at the New York State Capitol.

Stony Brook faculty from chemistry, computer science, engineering, quantum education, and psychiatry were on hand to share their research with state legislators and their staff. Policymakers in Albany heard firsthand about the transformative work being done at Stony Brook and how critical it is to fund SBU research facilities.

“We had a successful trip to Albany advocating for our students and for much-needed resources to support Stony Brook’s efforts as a flagship public research university,” said SBU Interim President Richard McCormick.  “Five of our outstanding faculty members did a wonderful job sharing their groundbreaking research in neuroscience, physics, medical device development, artificial intelligence and energy storage. Their presence greatly strengthened the credibility of my advocacy with legislators and other state officials.”

The visit coincided with the annual SUNY and University Center Presidents Advocacy Day in Albany in support of SUNY’s state budget priorities. This year’s visit included meetings with the Governor’s Senior Leadership Team, the Senate Majority Leader, the Assembly Speaker, and the Higher Education Committees of both Houses.
