The Stony Brook University women’s lacrosse team advanced to the NCAA Division I quarterfinals for the fifth time in program history thanks to a thrilling 10-9 victory over Boston College at LaValle Stadium May 10.
The Seawolves ran out to a 7-3 halftime lead and held on thanks to the goaltending of Natalia Altebrando, who came up huge with eight saves. The offense was powered by CAA Midfielder of the Year Isabella Caporuscio, who scored four goals in the victory. Haydin Eisfeld added two goals for Stony Brook, and made the play of the day in the game’s final minute, knocking the ball away and forcing a turnover on a Boston College free-position attempt.
Stony Brook advanced to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2022 with the victory, which also snapped Boston College’s streak of eight straight trips to the NCAA semifinals.
The Seawolves will face No. 4-seeded Johns Hopkins on Thursday, May 14 at noon in Baltimore, Maryland. The quarterfinal gamed will air on ESPNU.
Stony Brook won its opening round game of the NCAA Tournament on May 8 with a resounding 19-5 victory over Stonehill at LaValle Stadium. The Seawolves dominated the first half, leading 13-1 at the break. Six players scored multiple goals for the Seawolves: Jeilinne Bonilla (four goals, one assist), Mirabella Altebrando (three goals, two assists), Julia Fusco (three goals for her eighth straight multi-goal games), Eisfeld (three goals, her eighth hat trick of the season), Keira Martin (two goals, four assists), and Katie Walsh (two goals, three assists).
