Intelligence. Perseverance. Adaptability. These were the SBU Seawolf characteristics on Norah Allam’s mind when she decided to create an octopus mural to beautify the walls of Endeavor Hall in the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences (SoMAS).
Allam has a double major in biomedical engineering (BME) and applied mathematics and statistics, but a real passion and talent for art as well, in that true interdisciplinary spirit of so many Stony Brook students, faculty and staff.
So when Allam’s BME professor Mei Lin (‘Ete’) Chan suggested she collaborate with the Campus Beautification Committee (CBC) to create a piece of art that would serve as a lasting legacy, she seized the opportunity. And she even declared an art minor.
A couple of months, and 400 work hours later, Allam unveiled her work of art. And the CBC and SBU can only hope (after some relaxation from stippling) this will not be her last creation to grace the university’s walls.

I work in SoMAS, and Nora did a beautiful, thoughtful, and considered job on her work. Not only that, but she was a pleasure to see for the time she was here, she is a shining example of SBU students working hard and accomplishing much! Ginny : – )
