Launching hundreds of talented graduates into a world of challenges and rewards, Stony Brook University will hold its 23rd annual December commencement ceremony, taking place virtually on Friday, December 18, at 6:30 pm.
Graduating students and their families are invited to participate in a live stream celebration during which President Maurie McInnis and University Deans will confer degrees.
The graduates will join more than 190,000 alumni whose knowledge and skills are currently shaping our future.
President McInnis is expected to acknowledge the resilience and fortitude of the Class of 2020 in the face of unprecedented challenges.
During the ceremony famed artist and author Jules Feiffer will be honored with a Doctorate of Humane Letters. Jules Feiffer is an award-winning cartoonist, playwright, screenwriter, satirist, children’s book author and graphic novelist, recognized internationally as one of the most influential cartoonists of our time. His satirical outlook and probing wit have influenced several generations, politically and socially. Through his creative work, he has made an important and varied contribution to America’s cultural life. And as a longtime faculty member at Stony Brook Southampton, he has inspired a new generation of writers.
