President Samuel L. Stanley Jr., MD, assists students on Move-In Day, August 25, 2017.

Get ready to greet our new students with a spirited Stony Brook welcome during the excitement of opening weekend as the Class of 2021 begins its journey.

Experience Stony Brook activities kick off on Friday, August 25, for all new students on move-in day. Events continue throughout Saturday and Sunday, including the New Student Convocation and dinner, a men’s soccer game during first-night out activities, commuter and transfer student programs, movies, building tours and more.

Students can download the New to SBU app for guidance through the weekend and beyond.

After students say goodbye to their loved ones at the traditional Family Farewell BBQ, they will attend a series of programs and activities designed to acclimate them to the University and introduce them to faculty, staff and fellow students. They will receive their ID cards and agendas for Experience Stony Brook activities when they check in. Students should bring their ID cards to all events.

The fun doesn’t stop when the weekend is over. Many events are planned throughout the month of September, so cheer on the Seawolves football team or join an intramural sport, attend an outdoor movie or an orchestra concert, go to a paint night or an internship fair, and don’t miss Family Weekend on October 7.
