The 18th annual Walk for Beauty will be held on Sunday, October 2, at Stony Brook Village Center to raise funds for breast cancer research and patient support at Stony Brook University Cancer Center.

This year’s walk will honor Brian O’Hea, Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery in the Department of Surgery and Chief of Surgical Oncology, Stony Brook University School of Medicine, Chief of the Breast Service and Director of the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Care Center at Stony Brook University Cancer Center. O’Hea has been with the Cancer Center since 1996.

Registration on the day of the event is $20. Forms may be obtained by calling (631) 444-4000 or by visiting www.stonybrookmedicalcenter.org/walkforbeauty or www.wmho.org. Individual and corporate sponsorship packages are available, ranging from $100 to $10,000. Additional event information is also available at www.facebook.com/walkforbeauty.

In conjunction with this year’s event, local merchant Vincent D’Aguanno of Rumpelstiltskin Yarns at 145 Main Street will attempt to set a Guinness Book of World Records for longest time spinning yarn at his shop at Stony Brook Village Center. D’Aguanno will “spin for a cure” from Friday, September 30, at 10:00 am until Sunday, October 2, at 10:00 am.

Since its inception in 1994, the Walk for Beauty has raised more than $1 million for breast and prostate cancer research at Stony Brook University Cancer Center. The volunteer-led event is co-presented by Stony Brook University and The Ward Melville Heritage Organization. All event proceeds go toward research and patient support; there are no administrative fees.
