While everyone who steps foot on the Stony Brook University campus knows that it is a very special place, what they sometimes don’t see are all of the people working behind (and in front of!) the scenes to make it exceptional.

This honor, awarded to only 22 colleges and universities across the United States, was given in conjunction with College Student Educators International, also known as ACPA.

“While we know how hard our colleagues work to value each member of our team, we are grateful to be recognized by others,” said Vice President for Student Affairs Rick Gatteau. “To be acknowledged once more by one of education’s most prestigious organizations affirms that our efforts towards employee happiness, retention, and work/life balance are on the right track.”

This isn’t the first time the Division of Student Affairs has made the list; the group was honored in 2023, 2018 and 2015 as well as an honorable mention in 2022. It joins other higher education institutions, such as William & Mary, Virginia Commonwealth University and UC Berkeley.
