Lives, Legacy, and the Long Road to Justice
Join Stony Brook Southampton for a three-night Black History Month film series — Lives, Legacy, and the Long Road to Justice — exploring family, perseverance and the ongoing pursuit of justice through powerful, inspiring cinematic storytelling.
Presented as part of Stony Brook University’s commitment to education, dialogue and community engagement, the series brings together films that illuminate both the personal and collective dimensions of Black history.
The three-night series will take place February 19-21 at 7 pm at The Avram on the Stony Brook Southampton campus. Fences, based on August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, will begin the series on Thursday, February 19. 42, which tells the story of Jackie Robinson, who broke Major League Baseball’s color barrier in 1947 with the Brooklyn Dodgers, will be shown Friday, February 20. The series concludes Saturday, February 21, with Selma, which chronicles the 1965 voting rights marches from Selma to Montgomery, led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Tickets are $10 per screening, or you can purchase tickets to all three films for $28. Tickets are available for purchase online.
Lives, Legacy, and the Long Road to Justice invites audiences to reflect on the individuals and movements that have shaped Black history in the United States. Through stories of family, brilliance and activism, the series highlights how personal lives intersect with larger historical forces and how the pursuit of justice continues across generations.
