Stony Brook University is once again ranked within the top 100 among US colleges and universities (No. 91) and ranks as No. 39 among public universities, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2020 Best Colleges.
The University was ranked No. 38 in ethnic diversity and No. 24 in the new category of social mobility. Rankings in the areas of graduation and retention rates increased markedly, as did the University’s selectivity score.
U.S. News considers 15 metrics when ranking schools for academic excellence, placing the largest emphasis on a college’s ability to retain and graduate its students. Other factors include class size, undergraduate academic reputation and how much a school spends per student on instruction and other related educational expenses.
