First-year students weren’t the only ones embarking on a new experience this week, as Stony Brook University President Andrea Goldsmith helped them unpack their cars and haul boxes up stairwells on move-in day.

Students began moving into their Stony Brook residences on August 18, and Goldsmith was joined by many university staff members and students chipping in to help the newcomers as they began their journey as Seawolves.

Seawolves athletes were on hand to help bring bags, boxes and carts into the dorms, while the university cheer and dance teams greeted students and families as they arrived on campus.

All of the hard work paid off later in the day at the New Seawolf and Family Welcome BBQ, held on the Staller Steps and featuring music by the Spirit of Stony Brook Marching Band.

Goldsmith began her tenure as Stony Brook’s seventh president on August 1.
