Stony Brook University President Maurie McInnis recently welcomed Washington, D.C.-based alumni, White House Office of Science and Technology Policy staff, New York congressional delegation staff, and federal science agency staff to SBU’s inaugural “Seawolves on The Hill” event.
Overlooking breathtaking views of the Capitol Building, President McInnis shared an exciting update regarding SBU’s latest groundbreaking research; efforts to build a better, brighter future that creates a dynamic and inclusive environment where all Seawolves can succeed; and the university’s competitive proposal for the Center for Climate Solutions on Governors Island. Additionally, President McInnis thanked those attending the October 25 event for being dedicated advocates of science research, higher education and Stony Brook University.
“The example you are setting as an alum, a friend, a champion of Stony Brook, is irreplaceable. You are a real-life demonstration of the value Stony Brook University brings to the world and as a result, the federal government knows its investments in Stony Brook will multiply exponentially,” said McInnis. “Because of your support, we have a rich history of meeting the moment — of stepping forward to meet the world’s challenges.”
Stony Brook’s Office of Federal Relations based in Washington, D.C., near Capitol Hill is constantly working to enhance SBU’s relationships with D.C. alumni, policymakers, and influencers who share Stony Brook’s passion for intellectual endeavors of the highest international standards, professional education of the highest quality, and state-of-the-art innovative healthcare.
“At Stony Brook, we understand the importance of engaging and updating our D.C.-based alumni, hill staff, and agency staff on SBU’s extraordinary accomplishments and ambitious goals,” said Lauren Brookmeyer, SBU’s assistant vice president for Federal Relations. “These champions of Stony Brook are tremendous partners and stewards of Stony Brook’s remarkable story of national and global impact. We are grateful to have them as part of our Stony Brook family.”
The Office of Federal Relations will continue to work closely with SBU’s D.C.-based stakeholders on the university’s federal priorities.
