Stony Brook University Senior Vice President for University Advancement Dexter A. Bailey Jr. will receive a national award from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). Bailey, in his capacity as executive director of the Stony Brook Foundation, will receive a CASE Commonfund Institutionally Related Foundation Award at the Council’s Annual Conference for Institutionally Related Foundations, scheduled for April 3-5 in San Diego.

“Dexter Bailey has transformed a large and complex organization in a highly regulated environment, through outstanding recruiting, creating a culture of accountability, rewarding excellence, and innovative approaches to many of the key problems confronting public universities,” Stony Brook University President Samuel L. Stanley Jr. said. “And he has done this while becoming a part of the fabric of Stony Brook University, a respected and trusted leader who is recognized as a powerful champion for what is right and good about public higher education.”

Since joining Stony Brook and the Stony Brook Foundation in 2011, Bailey has led a dramatic increase in the University’s annual fundraising, from $41 million to $90 million annually. This surge was highlighted by the $630 million Campaign for Stony Brook, the largest campaign in the history of the SUNY system, which concluded at the end of June 2018. In addition, Bailey has diversified the Stony Brook Foundation board and led several other initiatives to strengthen the Foundation, including the introduction of Dean’s Councils for each of the University’s academic units, the hiring of the Stony Brook Foundation’s first chief investment officer, and a comprehensive effort to leverage data and analytics to guide the Foundation’s work.

“I’m honored to receive this award from CASE,” Bailey said, “not only because of the success that we have achieved at Stony Brook, but because of the amazing people that I have the privilege to work with in service to Stony Brook University. From the talented, hard-working professionals of the Stony Brook Foundation and the Office of University Advancement – thoughtfully guided by the Foundation Board of Trustees – to the dedicated alumni and friends who lend their support through the Stony Brook Alumni Association Board of Directors, there is a tremendous group of people dedicated to making Stony Brook the best university it can be for our students and our community, and it is rewarding to be a part of it all.”
