Stony Brook Child Care (SBCC) is hosting a special celebration in honor of Kayla Mendelsohn, an esteemed SBCC Board member whose dedication has been instrumental in the organization’s success. The event will take place on June 14, at 5:30 pm at the Stony Brook Child Care facility located on South Drive.

This festive occasion will not only recognize Mendelsohn’s invaluable contributions but also mark the re-dedication of the SBCC Multi-Purpose Room following its upcoming renovation. It is an opportunity to celebrate the difference that Stony Brook Child Care has made in many lives throughout its existence. SBCC has been an integral part of the campus and surrounding community for more than 50 years, and Mendelsohn’s leadership has played a significant role in its continued growth and excellence.

Mendelsohn’s journey with SBCC began as a parent representative and has since evolved into a remarkable tenure on the board, spanning from 1991 to the present day. Her extreme dedication includes a noteworthy 10-year term as chair of the Board.

Stony Brook University Professor Marci Lobel, vice chair of the SBCC Board, commented: “It has been a privilege and great pleasure to serve under Kayla’s leadership. Kayla helped to shepherd the Child Care Center through some of the most difficult times in our history, including the COVID pandemic when we remained open to serve the families of essential workers at our hospital and surrounding community. It took extraordinary commitment, leadership, and many hours of planning and work to maintain the safety and well-being of SBCC families and staff during this very challenging period. Kayla has always risen to the occasion and she displays great integrity, compassion, and forward thinking in all that she does.”

All members of the community are invited to join in this celebration. Guests should RSVP through the registration portal.
