From intricate sculptural pieces to beautiful landscape paintings, three members of the Stony Brook University community are bringing their creative vision to downtown Port Jefferson this fall.
Their work is featured in the 2025 Fall Art Walk, a village-wide exhibition that transforms local shops, restaurants and storefronts into temporary galleries.
The Art Walk, which began October 10, invites visitors to stroll through the village and view artwork from local creators displayed in shop windows. The event, sponsored by Stony Brook University and Stony Brook Medicine in collaboration with the Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce, runs through November 7.
“I was happy to see the university and hospital collaborating to produce an art show in town,” said Barbara Ludwig-Cull, clinical operations manager of the Stony Brook University Hospital’s Sleep Disorders Center in Smithtown, and a Stony Brook alumna.
Her featured works use photographs of a 1960s Marx tin dollhouse and vintage German Caco dolls to recreate the feeling of childhood memory. “It is great to reach out to a wider audience beyond the galleries were I have shown my work,” she said. “I hope we will have even more staff and students next year who will add their artwork to light up the Art Walk in Port Jefferson.”
For Amyah Adrien, a studio art major at Stony Brook, the experience offered a new perspective. “This was an opportunity to show what I love to everyone,” she said. Adrien’s three sculptural pieces each explore different techniques and textures. “It gave me the chance to see my artwork outside of class or my room — it gave me perspective.”
Adrien added that being part of Stony Brook’s creative community allows her to “learn, change, grow, inspire, have fun and most of all hope that the projects I complete will inspire others.”
Meanwhile, Stefani Seals, administrative assistant at the School of Medicine, who found artistic inspiration in the natural landscapes surrounding campus, says her work is about preserving fleeting beauty.
“When my neighborhood was severely impacted by the floods of August 2024, it was a stark reminder of how quickly things can change,” she said. “Now, more than ever, I feel compelled to create with intention, gratitude and reverence for the world around me.”
Although she admits she was nervous to share her art publicly for the first time, she said joining the Art Walk felt like a small act of bravery and a meaningful connection to both the community and Stony Brook’s creative spirit.
