Stacy Jaffee Gropack, dean of Stony Brook University’s School of Health Professions, and Santina Abbate, a clinical assistant professor in Stony Brook University’s School of Nursing, have won 2023 FACT2 Excellence Awards from the SUNY Faculty Advisory Council on Teaching and Technology (FACT2). The FACT2 awards recognize instructional faculty, technology support professionals and administrative leaders.
These awards are system-level honors conferred to acknowledge and recognize consistently noteworthy achievement and to encourage the ongoing pursuit of excellence. They underscore SUNY’s commitment to the use of technology to support instruction, research and service. The awardees will participate in an awards ceremony at the annual Conference on Instruction and Technology, which will be held May 23-26 at SUNY Oswego.
Jaffee Gropack received a FACT2 Excellence in Administrative Leadership award and Abbate received a FACT2 Excellence in Instruction award.
Jaffee Gropack holds a PhD in Higher Education and Administration from New York University and a BS and MS in Physical Therapy from LIU. Her primary clinical experience is in pediatric physical therapy, where she has provided physical therapy services and consultation to children with developmental delay. She is a Fellow in the Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions (ASAHP) and was named as the ASAHP representative to the Interprofessional Education Collaborative. Her research interests include innovative pedagogical approaches, interprofessional education and practice, use of technology for student engagement, and intervention for children with autism. She has taught courses related to psycho-social issues and education in physical therapy as well as introductory courses in the health sciences.
Abbate completed her PhD in Nursing, a Master of Science in Nursing, Master of Public Administration and Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Binghamton University. Abbate teaches in the Undergraduate Studies Department in both live and online class environments. Her clinical specialties include hospital operations/administration and leadership and management in acute care. She teaches nursing research, transitioning into baccalaureate nursing practice and population health. Her research and academic interests are in academic science, active learning strategies, flipping the classroom, team-based learning and use of technology in the classroom.
