
Seven standout Seawolves will be inducted into the Stony Brook Athletics Rita & Kurt Eppenstein Hall of Fame this fall.
The Stony Brook University Athletics Department announced the 2023 Hall of Fame class on June 21. The new inductees are: Dr. Leah Fiorentino (Holland) ’76 (Swimming & Diving), Brock Jackolski ’12 (Football), Nini Lagvilava ’13 (Women’s Tennis), Courtney Lawless (Murphy) ’17, ’18 (Women’s Lacrosse), Kylie Ohlmiller ’18 (Women’s Lacrosse), Carson Puriefoy ’16 (Men’s Basketball), and Steve Waldeck ’10 (Men’s Lacrosse).
“Our seven new inductees have authored some of the most historic chapters in the proud history of Stony Brook Athletics. The Class of 2023 represents the championship fabric of our department, and I look forward to celebrating them and their tremendous individual legacies over Homecoming weekend this fall,” said Director of Athletics Shawn Heilbron.

Fiorentino was a trailblazer for Stony Brook athletics, becoming the first woman on a Stony Brook swimming and diving team. Jackolski was a dynamic running back, kick returner, and defensive back and one of the greatest to ever play football at Stony Brook. Lagvilava is the greatest player in the history of Stony Brook tennis, with a combined singles and doubles record of 114-35.
Murphy is one of the greatest women’s lacrosse players in Stony Brook and NCAA history, with the second-most career goals in the sport. Ohlmiller, a three-time All-American, is the NCAA’s all-time leader in assists (246) and points (498). Puriefoy was a two-time First Team All-Conference selection and the point guard for Stony Brook’s first-ever NCAA Tournament team in 2016. Waldeck started every game over his four years at Stony Brook and became the first player in school history to be drafted in the MLL.
The 2023 Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place on Saturday, October 21, at Island Federal Arena.
