SBUH Mall Walkers Program Returns January 26

Sneakers

SneakersImprove your health and meet new friends by joining the Mall Walkers, a fun, easy exercise program co-sponsored by Stony Brook University Hospital and Smith Haven Mall.

The free community program meets at 10 am on the last Wednesday of the month at the Smith Haven Mall food court. Members walk around the inside of the mall at their own pace, and after their workout enjoy a complimentary light snack and the opportunity to socialize.

Membership includes monthly talks on a variety of health and wellness topics offered by experts from Stony Brook Medicine.

For the January 26 meeting, there will be a focus on stroke, the third leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States. Gain a better understanding of stroke signs, symptoms and risk factors by attending a stroke awareness lecture presented by Marret Anderson RN, MSN, ANP-C, Stony Brook stroke navigator, Stony Brook Medicine.

Smith Haven Mall is the ideal place to exercise in a weather-proof, climate-controlled environment with bright lighting and a clean, flat surface to walk on. And of course, lots of places to window shop! So, get your walking or running shoes on, and step out with us.

The Mall Walkers meet nine times a year (there will be no meeting in July, August and December).

Walking dates for 2022 are: January 26, February 23, March 30, April 27, May 25, June 29, September 28, October 26 and November 30.

Registration will be on-site for January and online beginning in February when the updated website is completed. All community members are invited to participate.

For more information, contact Stony Brook Medicine at (631) 444-4000.

  • I would like to join the organization and walk inside the mall. However the light snack seems to defeat the purpose of the walking, don’t you agree?
Will this group be able to organize walking around the mall BEFORE they are open and at least 5 days per week?
    That to me makes sense.
