Stony Brook University won Hobsons 2019 Education Advances Award in the category “Match & Fit/Admissions,” which honors an institution that has excelled in enrollment, and in particular at enrolling students who are well matched and academically fit.

The award was presented on July 30 at the Hobsons Summer Institute (HSI) in Marco Island, Florida. Hobsons, an education technology company, hosts the HSI each year to bring together K-12 staff, college counselors and higher education professionals.
Stony Brook uses Intersect by Hobsons — a matching platform offering a comprehensive set of solutions for universities to strategically reach best-fit students, those most likely to both apply and succeed at the University.
Stefan Hyman, Assistant Provost for Enrollment Strategies, Communications and Analytics in the Office of Enrollment and Retention Management, attended the HSI and accepted the award on behalf of the University. “This award recognizes the excellent work of our admissions staff, and the phenomenal support and opportunities students are provided by our faculty and support staff,” he said. “Our nomination for the award focused on pride in our diversity and social mobility outcomes, and some of the pipeline programs we run out of admissions to help build partnerships with high schools in low socioeconomic districts, which we will enhance with the funding from this award.”
The three categories Hobsons gives Education Advances Awards include: College and Career Readiness, Match & Fit/Admissions, and Student Success & Advising. Finalists were selected by an independent panel of judges and education leaders. The winners in each category received $2,500 to continue their efforts in helping students succeed.
