Stony Brook University’s Office of Marketing and Communications has won six Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) Best of District II awards for its “extraordinary work” in promoting and celebrating Stony Brook. The awards recognize and celebrate outstanding programs and individuals throughout the U.S. and Canada.
The largest of the eight CASE districts, District II helps members build stronger relationships with their alumni and donors, raise funds for campus projects, produce recruitment materials, market their institutions to prospective students, diversify the profession, and foster public support of education.

Stony Brook Magazine, Issues 10 and 11

The magazine published two print issues that showcased how SBU students, faculty and staff are changing the world and making an impact on and off campus. Content for each issue centered around a specific theme, and writers brought these stories to life in an engaging way, showing how each story connected to them and their Stony Brook experience.

Fall 2023 Digital Enrollment and Reputation Building Campaign

The Fall 2023 digital marketing campaign sought to reach prospective students and their influencers, including parents and guidance counselors, and education peers, including university presidents, provosts, deans, and other high-level leadership. The campaign was planned, designed and executed entirely in-house and overall performance surpassed key industry benchmarks across all platforms and audiences. Enrollment saw key application growth in all states targeted.

Simons STEM Scholarship Delivery Piece

This fun, original design with a spinning logo and a confetti stick shows students they are important to Stony Brook and that this is a school that goes the extra mile to welcome new students — in this case, students accepted to the Simons STEM Scholars program. Accepted students received this celebratory acceptance package in a personalized matte black bubble mailer including a letter, certificate, a “BIG NEWS” card and confetti popper filled with red and white confetti.

Griffin captured former Stony Brook University President Maurie McInnis as she was enveloped in a cloud of confetti at the closing of the 2023 Main Commencement ceremony. The shear joy and happiness on her face summarizes how proud and happy everyone in attendance felt for the graduating students.

This feature by Christine McGrath details how SBU alum Mary Beth Medley’s time on the Student Activities Board booking musical acts for the school paved the way for her career working with Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Rolling Stones. Her story painted the picture of Medley as a student and rookie in the music business in the late 1960s through to her retirement and the friendships she still holds dear. The story appeared in the magazine’s print and digital versions.
CASE District II is a regional organization of advancement professionals in the areas of alumni relations, communications, and philanthropy. Its purpose is to advance the knowledge and wisdom of its colleagues through district training programs, communication vehicles and networking opportunities.
