Stony Brook University, in partnership with the Port Jefferson Parking and Mobility Department, is once again offering the Port Jeff/SBU Shuttle, which will return on August 19. Initially created to improve opportunities for visiting neighboring Port Jefferson, the shuttle will provide a continuous service loop between Stony Brook University and the Village, where students can enjoy waterfront views, dine at trendy restaurants, shop at many local stores, hear live music and partake in festivals.
“The Port Jeff/SBU shuttle program has proven to be incredibly successful during prior semesters,” stated Joan Dickinson, Director of University Community Relations at Stony Brook University. “We are proud to partner with the Village of Port Jefferson and the Business Improvement District to provide a complimentary, off-campus transit resource for our students to visit and enjoy the many amenities historic Port Jeff offers.”
The shuttle is available, free of charge, for current Stony Brook students who display a valid SBU ID, and will operate on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from August through October 28. The shuttle can accommodate up to 19 riders at a time, and is handicap accessible. A live shuttle tracker is also available, and can be viewed here.
Rick Gatteau, Vice President for Student Affairs noted that, “The return of the Port Jeff Shuttle, now with expanded hours, is a wonderful opportunity for our Stony Brook students to spend time with friends off-campus and explore all that Port Jefferson offers.”
