State University of New York (SUNY) Distinguished Professors Chang Kee Jung and Clinton Rubin will be the guest lecturers at the latest event in the Provost’s Lecture Series on Thursday, November 20, at 7 pm in the Charles B. Wang Center Theater.
In “Universe According to Neutrinos, Nobel Prizes, Breakthroughs and Future,” Jung, professor and chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy in the College of Arts and Sciences, will discuss breakthrough advances in neutrino physics through historical perspectives, especially in connection with the Nobel prizes. He will also share some personal anecdotes that he has gained during his over three decades of research in the neutrino field.

Rubin, professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, College of Engineering and Applied Sciences and Renaissance School of Medicine, and director of the Center for Biotechnology, will deliver “Good Vibes: Developing an Exercise Surrogate as a Non-Invasive Means of Extending Healthspan.” Countering age-related declines in physiological systems, exercise suppresses disease susceptibility and slows cancer progression, preserves brain health and behavior, and protects mobility, strength and function. Leveraging the evolutionarily conserved ability of cells to perceive and respond to their mechanical environment, Low Intensity Vibration (LIV) has been developed as an exercise surrogate.
The Provost’s Lecture Series features talks by SUNY Distinguished Academy faculty members at Stony Brook University, showcasing the outstanding research and scholarship that is taking place at our institution. A reception will follow immediately after the talks.
The lecture are free and open to the public. RSVP online.
