A record number of faculty received seed grant support this spring for their research and scholarship in the arts, humanities and social sciences.
Thirty-six faculty projects were awarded funding, thanks to increased investment from Stony Brook University into the program for Faculty in the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (FAHSS). Last year, 22 faculty projects received support through the FAHSS program.
This year, the program similarly saw an increase in applications; nearly 50 faculty submitted projects, compared to just over 30 last year.
“It’s wonderful that Stony Brook University can support many more faculty projects this year through the FAHSS seed grants,” said Janet Ward, associate provost for arts, humanities and social sciences initiatives. “These projects advance the values of critical and creative thinking across cultures, centuries and continents. I’m grateful to the award committee members for their work in reviewing and awarding these grants.”
The FAHSS program aims to encourage interdisciplinary research, creative activities and collaboration. It is funded by the Office of the Provost, the Office for Research and Innovation and the Office of the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
The faculty grant recipients represent 20 departments across the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Renaissance School of Medicine, School of Communication and Journalism and the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences.
