The Graduate School and Office of Postdoctoral Affairs are excited to celebrate National Postdoc Appreciation Week (NPAW). This annual event is an opportunity to recognize the invaluable contributions that postdocs make to the university and the broader research community. The Stony Brook community is invited to a series of engaging events designed to foster connection, promote wellness, and highlight the significant role of postdocs in advancing knowledge and innovation.
About Postdoctoral Scholars
Postdoctoral scholars or “postdocs” are individuals engaged in a defined period of mentored training following the completion of their terminal degrees. These scholars are essential contributors to the university’s research endeavors, particularly in the life and biomedical sciences. Nationwide, there are approximately 72,000 postdocs, with the majority working in academic research.
In celebrating NPAW 2024, we acknowledge and appreciate the dedication and hard work of Stony Brook’s postdocs. Their efforts not only advance the frontiers of knowledge but also contribute to the growth and success of Stony Brook University.
