Every October, the U.S. Department of Labor promotes National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), which celebrates the contributions of America’s workers with disabilities past and present.
NDEAM 2022 focuses on the important role people with disabilities play in a diverse and inclusive American workforce.
Stony Brook University is celebrating NDEAM with the following events:
Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution Free Screening and Panel Discussion
Thursday, October 6, 4 pm to 7:30 pm
HSC, Lecture Hall 2 or via Zoom
Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution was nominated for an Academy Award in 2020 for Best Documentary Feature. At this film screening and discussion, learn how a summer camp experience in the 1970s shaped the disabilities rights movement.
Inclusive Recruitment and Hiring: People with Disabilities

This session will cover how to engage in an inclusive hiring process, from the writing of a job description through the interview process, with a focus on a process that is inclusive, accessible to and targets increasing the applicant pool from persons with disabilities.
