Melville Library’s Special Collections Celebrates New York Archives Week

History buffs, literary arts aficionados and even Allman Brothers fans have plenty of reasons to get acquainted with the Melville Library’s Special Collections and University Archives. During the week of October 19, 2015 — New York Archives Week — Special Collections is hosting an open house that puts its treasures on display.

Free and open to the public, the event takes place on Wednesday October 21, from 12 pm – 2 pm in Melville Library Room E-2320. Visitors can see spy letters written by George Washington during the American Revolution, a history of the world published in 1493, one of the first maps depicting Long Island as an island, photos of Stony Brook’s original train station, promotional pieces from campus concerts of the ‘60s and ‘70s and more.
