Suny logo 1SUNY Chancellor Kristina M. Johnson has announced the first ever SUNY Chancellor Esports Challenge powered by Extreme Networks — an esports tournament open to all 64 SUNY schools that begins on April 22. The main goal of the challenge is to raise money for #SUNYTogether Student Emergency Funds to help support students who need access to basic resources due to the COVID-19 crisis.

Chancellor Johnson has committed $10,000 and sponsor Extreme Networks has committed $10,000 for a total of $20,000 available in prizes. All prize money will be directed to the winning schools’ Student Emergency Fund. Participating SBU students will raise money for Stony Brook’s Student Emergency Fund.

To get involved, students need to:

  • Join the SUNY discord by clicking here. Important game day communication will be posted here, so check often.
  • Request an invite link to tournament coordinators at LeagueSpot either by email, or in the Discord server.

The tournament includes three games:

Fortnite Duos
Super Smash Bros.
Rocket League 3v3

Schools are limited to two teams per game. Registration is live and continues throughout this week and the beginning of next week. The tournament begins on Wednesday, April 22, and lasts for three weeks. Please register as soon as possible.

Questions regarding the tournament format and registration process should be sent to Tournament Coordinator Zach Braaten and his team at LeagueSpot. Braaten has set up a SUNY discord server account, and his team can chat with people in real-time who have questions. You can also email the LeagueSpot team at suny@leaguespot.gg.

Stony Brook students can contact Travis Liu at travis.liu@stonybrook.edu
