The fall season of The Jazz Loft @ Southampton Concert Series continues on Thursday, October 30, with “The Art & Soul of Rhythm & Blues,” at 7 pm at the Avram Theater at Stony Brook Southampton.

Born from the blues, jazz has long been a distinctive voice of American culture — capturing, like a soundtrack, the victories and struggles of generations. Always inclusive, jazz has drawn inspiration from country, swing, gospel, Latin rhythms, and more. Artists such as Louis Jordan, Dinah Washington, and Billie Holiday forged their sound by blending the heart of rhythm and blues with the spirit of jazz.

This performance brings together an extraordinary ensemble of internationally acclaimed artists: Joy Brown (vocal), Dayna Stephens (tenor saxophone), Miki Hayama (piano), Darrell Smith (drums), and Dean Johnson (bass). Together, they present a vibrant exploration of the roots and rhythms that shaped America’s musical soul — a rompin’ evening of foot-tappin’ grooves guaranteed to make you want to get your boogaloo on!

General admission is $36. Admission for Stony Brook University faculty and staff, alumni and seniors is $33, and $18 for SBU students. Buy tickets online and use code JAZZ5 at checkout to get $5 off your ticket.

Held in collaboration with The Jazz Loft in Stony Brook and curated by its founder, musician and Stony Brook University Endowed Artist in Residence Thomas Manuel, the series is a celebration of creativity, history and artistry. It explores various facets of jazz music, with each performance offering a unique experience.
