Holiday Season Wishes, Holiday Season Support

Stronger togetherWhile the holidays represent different things for all of us, they are often a time for reflection and remembrance, gatherings with family and friends, caring, giving, tradition, and celebration. We each observe our cultural customs in our own ways, and we honor the rich diversity of backgrounds here at Stony Brook University, where we value, respect, and embrace each other’s uniqueness. It was these very values that drew each of us to this institution in the first place.

Whatever customs you may follow, we wish everyone a joyous holiday season.

We also acknowledge the tremendous strain we’ve all been under during these difficult times: pandemic struggles, national political and social conflict, personal or family health issues, or the anxiety of returning to in-person working, teaching, and learning. The holiday season can sometimes exacerbate stressful feelings and situations, taking a toll on our emotional health and well-being.

Please keep in mind that the University is here to offer support as part of our commitment to caring for our entire campus community. To that end, there are many programs, tools, and resources to turn to for emotional support during trying times, outlined at the end of this message.

With cooperation and support from all of you, we have kept Stony Brook University one of the safest environments throughout the COVID pandemic. Moreover, we have persevered throughout these challenges to continue offering exceptional teaching, outstanding community care, and innovative research. We wish you all the best, and express our sincere gratitude for all you do.

Happy holidays.
