Get Involved in Community Service Day, August 26

Community service day food driveStony Brook’s Center for Service Learning and Community Service is hosting Community Service Day on Saturday, August 26, from 10 am to 2 pm.

The day will feature a kick-off with Vice President for Student Affairs Rick Gatteau and 16 service projects. Volunteer opportunities include campus beautification projects, writing cards for cancer patients, teaching technology to senior citizens, development of Stony Brook University’s first-ever Career Closet and many others.

How to Get Involved
Faculty, staff and community members are invited to get involved in this day of giving back by either participating in the following activities or donating to these causes:

Cut-A-Thon
Community service day wigs for kidsHelp support Wigs for Kids “Cut-A-Thon” by donating your hair on August 26. Please register for a time slot using this link. The Cut-A-Thon will take place in the Student Activities Center (SAC) Room 304.

Hair Donation Guidelines: Hair should be a minimum of 12 inches, clean and dry, and cannot be color treated or permed.

Can’t attend but want to donate? You can donate to Wigs for Kids.

Community Food Drive 
Join the drive-through food donation on August 26 to benefit Long Island Cares and the Stony Brook University Food Pantry.

Food items will be collected in front of the Stony Brook Union on the parking lot side (north entrance) from 10 am to 1:30 pm.
