University orchestra 2023The one-hour interactive concert is a favorite of the Stony Brook community. This year’s theme, “Musical Splendor in Nature,” features music that captivates the listener and displays the wide variety of orchestral sounds of the strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion in dynamics, tempos, and moods with music that reflects and is inspired by nature.

The orchestra, conducted by Susan Deaver, will perform Holst’s “Jupiter” from The Planets, Saint-Saens’ Carnival of the Animals, with narrator Peter Winkler, professor emeritus of Music at Stony Brook University. Additional shorter pieces reflecting nature will be included.
