This one-hour interactive concert is an annual favorite of the Stony Brook community. This year’s theme — “Orchestral Rhythms!”— features music that captivates the listener and displays the wide variety of orchestral sounds of the strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion in a kaleidoscope of rhythms along with musical elements of dynamics, driving, and smooth tempos and moods. Featured music will include Alfred Reed’s A Festival Prelude, Jerry Brubaker’s That Gershwin Rhythm, Vaughan Williams’ March from English Folk Songs, LeRoy Anderson’s The Typewriter, Shostakovich’s Waltz No. 2 and Copland’s Hoe-Down from Rodeo. The featured soloist is Alicja Paruch, who will perform as marimba soloist in Ney Rosauro’s Marimba Concerto.
