October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the Center for Prevention and Outreach (CPO) at Stony Brook University has put together a series of events to educate students about domestic and relationship violence and support for survivors.
Domestic Violence Awareness Month evolved from the “Day of Unity” observed by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence in October 1981. The goal of this event was to connect advocates across the nation who were working to end violence against women and their children, and the range of activities associated with the effort ultimately expanded to include events at the local, state and national levels.
