Women’s History Month Celebration Begins at Stony Brook

Throughout March, Stony Brook University is celebrating Women’s History Month, an annual tradition that highlights the achievements of women, raises awareness against bias and promotes social action for equality. “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion” is the theme for Women’s History Month 2024.

Many educational, social and cultural programs will be held throughout the month, with the Opening Celebration lunch on Wednesday, March 6, from 1 pm to 2:30 pm in the Student Activities Center, Ballroom A, featuring a panel discussion, student spotlight, performances, music and giveaways. Women’s empowerment and self-care mini sessions will be held throughout the day on March 6 at various locations, including:

  • Prominent Women in Healthcare: A Look Back, 9:30 am to 10:15 am, Student Activities Center, Room 223
  • Zumba: Dance for Wellness, 10:30 am to 11:30 am, SB Union Ballroom (2nd level)
  • Navigating the Name-Change Process at Stony Brook University and Beyond, 11 am to 12 pm, Student Activities Center, Room 303
  • Panel Discussion: Women in the Arts, 2:30 pm to 3:50 pm, Student Activities Center, Room 311
  • The Pill: Film and Discussion with Dr. Marci Lobel, 2:30 pm to 3:50 pm, Javits 102
  • Mindful Moments, CPO Office (SB Union 108)

Women’s History Month is coordinated by Diversity, Intercultural and Community Engagement and presented by the Women’s History Month Committee.
