Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month is celebrated in April at Stony Brook University to recognize the rich and diverse culture of Asian Americans.
The traditions and history of people of Asian descent are reflected in the Stony Brook campus community in many ways. Throughout April, student groups and campus departments will highlight that rich heritage with a variety of programs, performances and discussions.

‘Mama, Are we Black or White?’ and Other Intergenerational Conversations for Freedom

Charles B. Wang Center Theatre
OiYan Poon, a nationally recognized scholar on race and education, will discuss how answering her daughter’s questions about race inspired her book, Asian American Is Not a Color: Conversations About Race, Affirmative Action, and Family. Admission is free. RSVP online.

The Asian Students Alliance hosts this fashion show and more, with performers, activity stations and amazing food.
Sakura Matsuri: Cherry Blossom Festival
Sunday, April 27, 12-5 pm
Charles B. Wang Center
The festival features the sounds of taiko drums, koto plays, Japanese traditional dances, martial arts demonstrations, bonsai workshops, calligraphy workshops, ikebana flower arrangement, tea workshops, manga drawing, origami paper folding, kimono dress-ups, and cosplay for all ages.
