In a seasonal tradition at Stony Brook, members of the University Orchestra, vocal soloists and conductors will perform Handel’s Messiah on Sunday, December 10, at 4 pm in the Recital Hall at Staller Center. At 3:45 pm, a short preconcert will be held, featuring the University Orchestra’s Brass and Percussion Ensemble, led by Kaleb Lewis, and a chamber orchestra performing music of Joseph de Bologne and Peter Warlock, which will be conducted by Shiqi Yang.
Admission is free.
Choruses from Part One, Worthy is the Lamb/Amen and the Hallelujah Chorus will all be sung by the audience. Vocal scores will be available for purchase for $10 cash at the door. Solo vocalists will include undergraduate, graduate and DMA students Shuqi Yang, soprano; Wanmei Zhang, mezzo-soprano and soprano; Shu Li, mezzo-soprano; Timothy McGowan, tenor; Mikaeel Zohair, baritone; and Eunsung Lee, baritone.
Conductors include Delano Bell, Susan Deaver, Edona Mehmeti, Alicja Paruch and Dongke Tu. Fjord Deda is the solo trumpet for “the trumpet shall sound.”
