More than 60 Stony Brook students participated in the second annual Port Jefferson Dragon Boat Race Festival on September 19. Boats representing Stony Brook University, the Confucius Institute and Stony Brook Children’s Hospital took part in the races. Students from across the University community participated, including members of the student group Global China Connection. Students from Taiko Tides, a Japanese percussion group, and DDKY, a Korean traditional drumming group, performed during the all-day event in Harbor Front Park on the Port Jefferson waterfront.

The Stony Brook Children’s Hospital boat took second place in the B Division championship final. The festival, organized by the Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by the Confucius Institute, among other organizations, aims to foster cultural understanding, community involvement and charitable giving.
