SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher attended the American Council on Education’s 95th Annual Meeting Leading Change in Washington, DC, on March 4, where the 2013 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll recipients were announced. Stony Brook University was one of 13 SUNY campuses named to this year’s Honor Roll. A total of 690 higher education institutions were included. Combined, the Honor Roll awardees engaged 3.1 million students in community service for a total of 118 million service hours, a $2.5 billion value to communities nationwide.
The President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll began in 2006. It recognizes colleges and universities that achieve meaningful, measureable outcomes in the communities they serve and show a dedicated commitment to community service and service learning.
“SUNY students, faculty and staff have a rich history of giving back not only to the communities that surround our campuses in every region of New York but to populations in need worldwide,” said Chancellor Zimpher. “We are deeply proud to see so many of our campuses recognized again this year on the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.”
