The inaugural Her Campus list of the 22 Under 22 Most Inspiring College Women for 2015 is out, and Stony Brook University’s Ruchi Shah is on it for inventing an innovative, all-natural and inexpensive mosquito repellant. A passionate scientist, she is CEO of her own company, Mosquitoes Be Gone Inc., and continues to do research on combating mosquito-transmitted diseases around the world. She also received the American Association for Cancer Research’s Thomas J. Bardos Science Education Award, given to the 10 best collegiate cancer researchers in the nation.
“The level of talent we saw among the nominations made the selection process incredibly difficult,” said Stephanie Kaplan Lewis, co-founder, CEO and editor-in-chief of Her Campus. “But we could not be more in awe of the truly aspirational group at which we have arrived.”
Nominees were evaluated on a mix of criteria including leadership experience, academic excellence, demonstrated passion for their cause and ambitious goals for their future.
Online magazine Her Campus is the premier global community for college women, with more than 290 campus chapters nationwide and in seven countries. It has been named to Forbes’ lists of the 100 Best Websites for Women and 10 Best Websites for Millennial Women.
