Seawolves standout Tommy Brenton, a defensive star in America East basketball, is the subject of an admiring profile in Saturday’s New York Post.

Post sportswriter Howie Kussoy praises Brenton’s toughness and versatility, crediting the 6’5 forward with “doing the little things that make the Seawolves click.”

This season, senior Brenton is averaging 7.7 points, while leading the team with 8.2 rebounds, 4.8 assists and two steals, Kussoy notes.

Most impressive of all, perhaps, is Steve Pikiell’s assessment:

“If there was a stat for taking charges, he’d lead that, too,” said Stony Brook coach Steve Pikiell. “He embodies everything that’s great about basketball. You go to AAU games and everyone’s trying to score 20 and then they’re tweeting about it. He’s a coach’s dream. Winning is the biggest part of him and he does it all with unselfishness.”

The Seawolves are  7-2 this season, the program’s best nine-game start in Stony Brook’s Division I history.
