Your Career Matters: Personality and Career Direction

Stony Brook University; Career Center Staff PortraitsFinding career direction is often guided by our personality, experiences and passions. Career exploration is a continuous process of self-discovery. When making career decisions, identifying personality attributes, strengths, skills, accomplishments and values can allow us to achieve greater self-awareness.

Understanding ourselves better will also increase our ability to communicate well with others, enable us to thrive in teams, and can lead to better decision-making.

Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a psychological assessment tool which provides insight into one’s personality and helps provide career direction. MBTI provides a four letter “type,” which tells us where our energy comes from – internally or externally, how we take in information, how we make decisions and how we structure our world. Understanding more about who we are can help us determine good-fit career options.

Join us May 29 from 5:30 pm to 7 pm at the SBU Career Center for a group workshop. Each participant will take the MBTI and results will be shared and interpreted. For more information, please visit our website.
