Wlax ae title 2021The Stony Brook women’s lacrosse team earned its eighth straight America East title with a 16-9 win against second-seeded UAlbany on May 8 at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.

A day later, Stony Brook learned that it was awarded the eighth seed in the NCAA Division I women’s lacrosse championship tournament. The Seawolves, who learned of their fate during the selection show Sunday night on ESPNU, will open at home against Towson on May 14.

The title-winning victory over Albany extended the Seawolves’ conference winning streak to 54 games — now the longest current streak in the nation, thanks to the Oklahoma softball team’s loss on May, which snapped their 65-game streak in the Big 12.

“For some teams, winning the conference championship is the Super Bowl,” coach Joe Spallina said after the championship win. “For us, it’s the beginning.”

Ally Kennedy had five goals for the Seawolves, Kaeli Huff had a hat trick and Kailyn Hart and Taryn Ohlmiller had two apiece.

Kennedy had a dozen goals in the two-game tournament, a record for an America East playoffs. She now sits alone in second place in program history in goals with 257. Kennedy was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, while Huff, Ohlmiller and Kameron Halsall were named to the all-championship team.
