2018 AE Champions celebrate victory.

With the win, the Seawolves (19-0, 7-0 AE) earned an automatic bid to the 2018 Women’s Lacrosse NCAA Tournament. The team  has been selected as the No. 5 national seed and will square off with the winner of Penn and Penn State on Sunday, May 13 from LaValle Stadium.

Stony Brook is the only unbeaten team heading into the NCAA Tournament, going 19-0 (7-0 AE) so far this year. The Seawolves cruised past Albany, 22-14, earlier on Sunday to earn their sixth-straight America East championship. Stony Brook has been ranked No. 1 nationally in all three major polls (IWLCA Coaches’ Poll, Cascade/Inside Lacrosse, Nike/US Lacrosse) for 10-straight weeks now, and is currently on the longest win streak in program history. The Seawolves have won 32-straight contests at LaValle Stadium.

“I’m really proud of our team,” Head Coach Joe Spallina said. “Winning a conference championship is not an easy thing. Albany was on its game today, so I tip my cap to them – I thought they competed well.”

Taryn Ohlmiller paced the Stony Brook offense, scoring two goals to go along with a career-high seven assists for nine total points. She assisted on five of Stony Brook’s 12 goals in the first half of action.

Kylie Ohlmiller had a team-high seven goals to go along with one assist for eight total points. She attempted 14 total shots, which ties her 2018 season high.

“Our leadership had to step up and emerge, and I’m really excited for our seniors,” Spallina said. “This was another great day for our program, and it gets us one step closer to our overall goal.”
