Class of 1968 ReunionOn May 18, all eyes were on Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium, where graduates joined the alumni ranks in the largest graduating class in Stony Brook’s History. After the excitement and crowds of the commencement celebration dissipated, the Alumni Association celebrated something significant in its own right. After 50 Years, the Class of 1968 returned to campus to once again reconnect with their Alma Mater.

The Class of 1968 spirits were high as friends reconvened for a nostalgic weekend of storytelling, campus tours, visits to the University’s archives, and afternoon tea at Sunwood Estate.

Reunion attendees also had the privilege of hearing from Distinguished Teaching and Service Professor Norman Goodman, who not only served as their professor in 1968, but has remained with Stony Brook University ever since. Attending Stony Brook during the Vietnam war, Professor Goodman and the class collectively recalled a very different feeling of academia than we know today. The Class fondly remembered their time on campus, with great friends, basketball games, tray sliding and of course the mud.

The weekend concluded with the Brook Heritage Society Reunion Dinner, a celebratory dinner in the LDS center, a familiar room to the class who knew it in their day as the H-Quad cafeteria. There, members of the Class of ’68 were inducted into the Brook Heritage Society, a tradition for alumni celebrating their 50th reunion.
