Through the Marine Sciences Boat Donation Program, you can help build Stony Brook’s Marine Sciences programs while possibly receiving a tax deduction for your contribution. Yacht, boat, marine, and aquarium equipment donations are made through the Stony Brook Foundation Inc., which qualifies under section 501(c) (3) of the IRS code as an institution that may accept this type of gift. Your donation may entitle you to an income tax charitable deduction.
Some of the boats and equipment are used directly by students for their Marine Sciences studies and research; however, most of the equipment and boats are sold, generating revenue to provide scholarships and to upgrade boats, field equipment, and facilities.
The School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences has one of the top Marine Sciences programs in the country. The University is dedicated to providing the best research facilities and equipment possible for all of its marine sciences students, such as a fully equipped marine station on Shinnecock Bay housing aquaculture and water labs, teaching labs, research equipment, and docks with a fleet of eight boats for teaching and research projects.
